A TALENT FOR MURDER (in theatres)

Peneflix has been at war with the Internet and the result was not even Pyrrhic; the Internet ate her 62nd CIFF reviews. They will be addressed as they are distributed.

Thank you for your patience and loyalty.

Helen Mirren has the time of her life depicting Patricia Highsmith in the waning days of her life. It is a fictional version of an alcoholic, smoke-infused, creator of the inimitable, conman “Tom Ripley”; she salaciously soars matched with “Edward Ridgeway” (remarkable Alden Ehrenreich) a literary agent sent to her reclusive hideaway in Switzerland to encourage her to write a final Ripley novel. Hence, between the dynamic duo murders are forged, weapons apportioned, heroine allocated “Clementine Balfour” (enchanting Olivia Cooke). Director Anton Corbijn deliciously balances a movie within a movie; actors pole vaulting between disparate personalities; entertainment at a thinking man’s (or woman’s) level.

More than “A Talent For Murder” the film grasps the nuances of story telling in compelling Highsmith style.
