FOR MOVIE MAVENS CHALLENGED BY THEATRES

No longer do you have to wait! Streaming devices feature films nominated for Academy Awards; yes, at times you must pay “theatre prices” but never denies the tranquility of your favored couch. Here are a few features on Amazon Prime and Netflix.

ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER: 13 Academy Award nominations; a crowd esteemed, but not mine (Sean Penn is worth watching & should win Best Supporting Actor). Political frustrations on steroids directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.

SINNERS: 16 nominations (largest ever (director Ryan Coogler)); for those lovers of myth, mythology, vampires and jazz will savor it; I did like it, that award worthy? No.

FRANKENSTEIN: 9 nominations; (director Guillermo del Toro) I loved every second!!! It is a five-star film & bests all screened “ancestors”.

HAMNET: 8 nominations including director Chloe Zhao and Jessie Buckley for Best Actress; heart tearing, sublime conclusion.

SENTIMENTAL VALUE: 9 AA nominations, unusual status for a Norwegian film directed by Joachim Trier. A MUST!!!

THE SECRET AGENT: 4 AA nominations including Best Picture, Best International film. An intensive Brazilian, boggling mystery starring Wagner Moura, also a Best Actor nominee.

IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT: 2 AA nominations for this Iranian political thriller which I liked better than “The Secret Agent”. Its personality and humor keeps one in suspense for its entirety.

“MARTY SUPREME TOPS MY LIST AS THE BEST FILM OF THE YEAR, (DIRECTOR Josh Safdie) AND WITHOUT A DOUBT THE BEST ACTOR, TIMOTHEE CHALAMET!! 9 AA nominations.

Here are eight films that should be seen before March 15th. Guarantees you admission into the realm of insightful “guessers”. Titillation & fun, part of the package.
