For over eleven years and 1000 plus reviews, my sporadic filmic intermissions rejuvenate, not only my spirit, but how I view films; the escapism of movies, relief from reality, a hiatus from daily duties, is healthy, but has to be balanced with the flavor of things as they actually exist; blinders off, focusing on globalization and its effects on the world’s economy; politics, no longer shunning the alarming tweets from elected officials, the conscious convenience of shuttered ears can impair reason, clarity and eventual justification of one’s beliefs; reading, not only the sublimely scholarly (Isaacson, Goodwin) but mysteries, titillating best sellers (Silva, Egan), “The Economist”, “Architectural Digest”, “Artforum”, “National Geographic”; overdosing on TV’s: Amazon Prime’s “Prisoners of War”, “Spiral”, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”; Netflix’s “The Angel” “Fauda,”, “The Break”; traveling, nothing expands the psyche, revitalizes the mental and physical, more than journeying beyond the familiar, stunned by the unknown, unexplored, tantalizing tang of the foreign.
More succinctly, “travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.”
So my fellow movie mavens, for your years of imbibing, either agreeing or differing, on Peneflix, I am perennially grateful. Also comforting, knowing that thousands share my addiction, luckily after three/four movies we still feel good in the morning.
Best in life and film!
