“When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, when I became a man, I put away childish things.” Corinthians 13:11
The epistle lacks the prescient power of recognition and memory; what one cherishes in the formative years, determines behavior in adulthood, certain things should never be cauterized, just pocketed, protected in a safe drawer in one’s mind, heart and spirit; watching this enchanting metaphor for recalling “childish things” and the joy they shed, the simplicity of love for a “brown bear”, “Bucky badger”, a toy gone missing, but never forgotten.
Ewan McGregor is charming, captivating and whimsically wonderful as “Christopher Robin” an adult enmired in his position at Winslow Luggage; he has lost sight of life’s gifts, the reason for inhaling/exhaling; Haley Atwell, “Evelyn Robin, neglected and weary, suffers in a 1950’s fug; Bronte Carmichael, “Madeline”, Christopher’s precocious daughter holds her own with”Winnie-The-Pooh” (superb voice of Jim Cummings) and fellow, furry comrades.
Director Marc Foster blends fantasy, fiction, folly with an awakening, potently beneficial for all audiences; a gallant gallop back in time when childish things blissfully informed our days and dreams.
