In today’s world children populate many restaurants, easily spotted by the lighted devices on their laps or the dining tables; parents converse as if they are not there. AND THEY ARE NOT.
Animated films lack a certain appeal but because of the popularity of this Pixar franchise, directed by Andrew Stanton, I went, and admired the message. Devices are conquering the attention spans of age groups from two and beyond, worrisome conundrum that “Toy Story 5” addresses.
“Lilypad” (Greta Lee) is eliminating toys and relationships so providential in a child’s development; she commences and concludes the day. Favorite toys are alienated, unattended, castoffs: “Woody” (Tom Hanks) and “Jessie” (Joan Cusack) “Buzz Lightyear” (Tim Allen) are brokenhearted but willing to put up a good fight; their resolve, feisty, unrelenting behavior is the core of this dual between modern technology and personal companionship.
“Toy Story 5’s” optimistically deflated marriage between the real and the surreal leaves one rooting for “Toy Story 6”.
