Leave it to Bollywood, alas, the “dream girl” is a guy! Ayushmann Khurrana is “Puja” the luminary of a call center; his melodious, sensual voice was discovered while starring as “Sita” in the fabled, mythic Ramayana; he “catfishes” and mimics, the “Dream Girl” of lonely, nerdy men, placating their prurient fantasies; a plodding and surreal scenario; Khurrana, with the aid of Nushrat Bharucha, “Mahi” his pixyish girlfriend, Manjot Singh, his Sikh buddy, and inimitable Annu Kapoor as “Lokesh/Puja’s” father, generate a smattering of laughter and incipient fun, reaffirming that lunacy lives!
Bollywood lacks a legitimate rating system; films are geared to audiences of all ages; “Dream Girl” might satisfy ex-pats from the Asian filmic milieu but grossly lacks the potency Western viewers covet.
Contemporary Indian movies have narrowed the boundaries between continents; “Dream Girl” unfortunately, is a giant leap to a blast from the past.
