BRING THEM DOWN  (in theatres)

An intensely orchestrated and depicted feud between two Irish families in the solemn, untarnished, unforgiving landscape of the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland; Shakesperean in scale (Montagues & Capulets) the shepherding world collides catastrophically between the O’Sheas and Keelys; “Michael O’Shea” (Christopher Abbott, silently sensational), seething with a history of remorse and under the tyrannical tutelage of his father “Ray” (crucial performance by Colm Meaney), locks horns with father/son, “Gary” (Paul Ready) , “Jack” (Barry Keoghan, “Saltburn” continues to escalate) over missing rams. Commencing with a flashback, director Christopher Andrews with insightful skill weaves a tapestry of angst, palpable hatred, egregious revenge, forcing viewers to concentrate on the Irish dialect, before moving into English (an innovative theatrical tool); accompanied by a scintillating soundtrack by Hannah Peel, on a circuitous route, leading to damnation. The barbarization of the rams will not sit well, whether an animal lover or not, is squeamishly problematic, but contributes to the compelling intricacies of the film.

“Bring Them Down” exposes the realm of the little known, unfamiliar, and vivisects its bleeding reality, forcing attendees to analyze its truthfulness, honesty, pain, eventually earning massive, well-deserved respect.
